Open Media - Your a Credit to Canada!
Cell Phone Companies To Get Unlimited Plans For N America! :)
At least I hope they will!
I mentioned the idea on Open Media's Facebook page and they liked it. It's hard to find good groups willing to go the distance for "the little guy". Yesterday was to honour Torrent Freak, doing what the New York Times did back in the day for News, sadly, now just entertainment preapproved by established industries who either got advertising grips or powerful friends to silence any GOOD push by newspapers or TV...
Open Media's angle is a bit different. Their website here:
Open Media - Open Media's Stop The Meter Campaign!
It's got an official vibe to it. These guys are going for the throat of those who would exploit us and deny proper upgrades to the Canadian people. So they got this online petition going. It's gotta be an official, professional looking website I guess when yer asking for first, last, postal code, street, city info.
I normally never give my info up. It's very precious and if misused or someone's running Windows when collecting it, ZAP, the Entire Internet now has it for data fraud schemes. Most people think they can run the updates and their client's/customer's data is secure....and perhaps the 3rd party software holding it is.....but Windows is not secure for any financial stuff imo.
So why did I sign this? Well because it'd be 476,633 people without me! :)
I'd risk my info on something important. The unlimited Internet we've paid for putting in place as tax payers for the lines on the only service ALLOWED in Canada shouldn't be tolled after being built.
I see this fucking shit in BC Canada also. New bridges go up and tolls are put on them like were American and the right to travel is being cut off bridge by bridge. It's not the only industry, Internet & Roads....
So I use my pc to add my mark on the wall hoping it'd make a splash. I was prob in the 250-300k mark when I signed it weeks ago. What I like about this website is they are politically active, real in yer face to CRTC and govt people. I heard one of their team even went to Ottawa to bat for Canadians.
I try and keep up with them and their noble work.
On Twitter they are: OpenMedia_ca
On Facebook: Open Media Facebook
So I'm on it last night, browsing around and seeing how others in Canada feel about this UBB (99% against it, top 1% hogging all the affordable Internet and making a killing)
Unlike Maclaens, owned by Rogers....no one yet owns me. I got a heavy bias for the regular people and profiting heavily from them upsets me. That's where I stand basically for nearly every utility, employment (sub)standards, and basic rights like health care, food, and housing.
World Map of Upload Speeds:
Pic of Google Public Data Nation Upload Stats
This map shows the following nations beating us at this Internet game:
Japan
South Korea
Sweden
Ghana (North Eastern Africa)
Switzerland
Vietnam
Indonesia
Iceland
Greenland
Newfoundland (perhaps this explains their separatist ways, akin to Quebec's, but divided ain't the answer my fellow Canucks!)
There are simply too many to get into on the map but if you'd like to check the data yourself, here:
Google Public Data Nation Upload Stats, Interactive map, also shows other categories!
So someone send ME this on the Open Media's Facebook discussion. I gotta pass it along w praise for Open media bringing like minded people together.
Took me a while to find the link there. 98 people commenting on this thread:
Facebook Post From Open Media, all good comments, unlike "published" news/entertainment papers and TV's pre-screened junk on UBB issues
I find it kinda sad Canadians are using a make shift Facebook option for their democracy concerns, also sad that Open Media had to push for the unlimited Internet, b/c if they didn't, no one would! I'm proud of what people can do in spite of forces working against them. No stopping the determined. This is why Open Media are hero's to me.
So I'm happy to keep whatever person ends up here in the loop of stuff I find. Today is all Open Media, I mean, who raises the capital to fly to Ottawa to battle it out vs giants in the telcom?
On the Facebook thread I posted:
I'd also like to ask you to push for cell phones adopting the unlimited Internet plans.....mandating that all cell phone providers MUST provide an unlimited cell plan so we can keep up with 3rd world nations who already have it. I mean Rogers BOUGHT Fido for such a plan, they want to cell phone plan our Internet, how bout we also push for unlimited cell time for all Canadians for them messing us around on this. :)
I'd also vote in a politician willing to make phone plans by law, unlimited plans for a reasonable price (and of course getting back our unlimited Internet).
Another after Open Media saying it was an alright idea:
Trevor Terry ?@OpenMedia.ca I thought you'd like the push for unlimited cell phone usage, same as the Internet one.....it's time for some payback on these thieves imo. Demanding to the CRTC to install unlimited plans for services is awesome. Pushing upgrades to rural Canada, also awesome! Govt in charge of upgrades (mandating the work gets done, taxes well spent), also great! (scammers might throttle instead of expand, lol)
Perhaps this stunt of stealing the unlimited Internet will cost them HUUUUUUUGE when Canada gets angry enough to fight for other things as unlimited services. That same pic above, all those awesome big circle uploading nations, ya, they also got cheeeeeeeap cell service, unlimited plans, and good rates....no, they do NOT run illegal contracts for many times over the cost of the inflated phone prices and stick you with disconnect charges...
I hope I threw more ammo/fuel to Open Media. They inspire me, I gotta give back however I can to support their work. Other then the Liberal party getting a copy of all yer info and spamming yer inbox /w junk mail pretending they care after signup, it's still important to "stand up and be counted, for what you are about to receive"
